Portico Kids | What To Expect

The Nursery | A Safe Place for our Littlest Ones

The Nursery is a safe place for our youngest Portico Kids. Volunteers in the Nursery will spend time playing, talking, reading, singing and praying with your little one. Napping is a common pastime in the Nursery too, and there is a dedicated room dedicated to sleepy little ones.

To serve you best, please label all of your child’s things before dropping them off. Volunteers are happy to change your child’s diaper. Volunteers are also happy to give your child a bottle or snack from home. Please have as much of the bottle prepared ahead of time with water in a container and the formula pre-measured. Volunteers are not able to leave the room to get or heat bottles or water during the service.

The Corner | For Crawlers & Children Under 3 Years Old

Kids in the Corner engage in free play for the first part of service.  Approximately halfway through the service, volunteers prepare a snack for toddlers. All of the snacks provided are peanut-free and made in peanut-free factories. Please be sure to indicate any food allergies your child has during check in. Volunteers will check for allergies listed on your child’s security sticker. Families are welcome to provide a peanut-free snack from home.

Snack time is a great opportunity to share the Gospel, the good news of Jesus, with children. Volunteers will also pray for and with the children, teach the lesson for the week, help the children with memory verses, and sing songs.

Following snack time, kids continue to play until it is time for them to be picked up. Parents/guardians should receive a take-home sheet and memory verse card for each new lesson.

The Classrooms of Portico Kids | The Theater, Station, Playground, Lookout, & Lodge

When kids arrive in their rooms, they will participate in session starters, relationship building, and completing an activity sheet until the service starts. This is when children can also give their offering in their rooms.

Large Group | A Time For Worship & Learning

When the service begins, children from the TheaterStation, and Playground gather in the Theater for Large Group.

Large Group includes learning the Big Picture of the lesson, watching a Bible Story Video, a time of Worship (except Lodge), hearing The Gospel: God’s Plan for Me, practicing the Key Passage (memory verse), and prayer. The Lodge also watches and talks about the Discussion Video.

Classroom Time | Applying The Lesson

After Large Group, kids return to their classrooms to talk about the Bible Story, participate in games and activities, write on their journal pages, and pray.

Kids in the Theater and Station have a snack. All of the snacks provided are peanut-free and made in peanut-free factories. Please be sure to indicate any food allergies your child has during check in. Volunteers will check for allergies listed on your child’s security sticker. Families are welcome to provide a peanut-free snack from home.

The Lookout & Lodge | Similar but Distinct

When the service begins, kids in the Lookout and Lodge remain in their rooms for Large Group. When the sermon ends, Kids in the Lodge attend "Big Church" worship in the auditorium, and are picked up by parents/guardians from the Auditorium's Mezzanine (Balcony) at the end of service.
