John Boggs grew up in Indiana and came to know Christ while in high school. Following graduation, he and his wife Jenn married and, along with six friends, renovated a 40-foot bus to travel the country spreading the Gospel through worship and preaching. In 2002, John left the traveling ministry and took a job as Music Director at First Baptist Church in Bonita Springs Florida, where he was ordained. He moved to Charlottesville in 2005 and began attending Portico the following year. He joined the staff in summer of 2007.

As Pastor of Worship Arts, John is responsible for ensuring that all elements of Portico services are seamless. As a graphic designer, John has created print materials, animation, and websites, including Portico’s current webpage. A talented songwriter, John has composed many original worship songs, which are regularly performed at Portico. John plays at venues across the region, collaborating with other local artists. In December 2008, John launched Sovereign Records. The label’s first album release is expected in late 2009.

John and Jenn have three daughters, Angela, Rece, and Lauren, and one son, Jordan.
